Abstract Since pumps of high head with packing seal structure generally take water of high pressuredirectly from pumping chamber to seal and lubricate the packing, the axial seal pressure in packing chamberis high and leakage is large. If the packing pressed tight, the wear between axle sleeve and packing will beincreased. So a pressure regulating valve was designed to adjust the water pressure of axial seal. And thestructure, principal of use and adjustment and the test method to determine the relationship among opendegree, axial seal pressure and flow rate for this kind of valve are introduced. Its use case has manifested thatit can realize the adjustment of flow rate and the water pressure of axial seal freely to ensure the water for axialseal obtain the optimal pressure and flow rate.
