Numerical simulation of solidliquid twophase turbulent flowin submersible axialflow pump

The solidliquid twophase turbulent flow in a submersible axialflow pump was simulated by using a softwareFluent with the mixture multiphase flow model，RNG k-ε turbulence model and SIMPLEC algorithm to study the characteristics of such a flow. The results of twophase flow have been compared with those of water flow. The flow patterns at several volume fractions, particle diameters and solid densities were revealed. It is concluded that solid particles mainly accumulate near the leading edge of pressure surface of blades but close to the hub in the flow channels of impeller. Solid particles tend to move to the suction side of blades as their diameter is increased at the same volume fraction. For the particles with the same diameter, as the solid volume fraction is increased, the solid particles on the pressure side tend to move to the blade leading edge and the hub, and those on the suction side tend to move to the outlet of impeller and the hub.
