According to the problems in the existing jet fertilizer pumps, a new type of the pump was proposed and its 3D solid model was generated in Pro/E software, the flow in it was simulated by using CFD software-Fluent. An orthogonal experimental design with 4 factors each at 4 levels was applied in the new fertilizer pump, the 4 factors include 3 key structural parameters of the piston and driving pressure for the pump, and the observed performance indexes are the averaged piston moving velocity and switching frequency. The internal flow field and piston moving process were analyzed by means of velocity contours at a series of typical instances during the discharging period of the piston. The effects of those parameters on the two observed indexes were evaluated by using the range analysis and variance analysis. The results show that the driving pressure and piston stroke can significantly affect the averaged piston moving velocity and switching frequency. The averaged piston moving velocity and switching frequency have been correlated to those four parameters with a stronger linear dependence by using the multivariable method. These linear multivariable regression models can provide a theoretical basis for the structural design and quantitative analysis in the design of jet fertilization pumps.
