Calculation and Prevention for Water Hammer in Water Intake Project of Huizhou Shennengyuan Fengda Electric Power Plant

Abstract:The water hammer in water intake project of Fengda electric power plant is calculated by themethod of characteristic line. As the GRP sand inclusion steel pipes with low elastic modulus are adopted, andthe water treatment mixing screw set at the end of pipeline wears down a part of water hammer energy, so getlow positive water hammer pressure in the water supply system. But high negative pressure is likely to happenat the both ends of the pipeline in case of a serious pump-stopping water hammer. The results show that it iseffective to prevent the negative water hammer pressure by setting three one-way surge tanks in pipeline.
