Abstract Universities in the New China era and the prosperity & development of socialist culture have been always in the process of interaction. 60 years of development have shown that the scientific development of universities fully reflects the strength of the advanced socialist culture, and meanwhile the prosperity of socialist advanced culture shows kinetic energy of universities. To realize the greater development and prosperity of the advanced socialist culture, universities need to perform the missions of culture leading, culture inheritance, culture transcendence, culture communication, culture creation, culture selfconsciousness, culture reflection, culture criticism, culture selfshaping and culture integration.
