Abstract Futureoriented internationalization of higher education is undergoing a series of profound changes, and this article elaborates its international and domestic development from five perspectives of the concept, trend, mission, challenges and outlook. Due to multiple factors’ influence in the future, the accelerating trend of internationalization of higher education will make education a global cause. The internationalization of higher education will take cultivating highlevel talents for the future as the new mission, and face new challenges of enhancing influence on the reform and development of global education. Based on paying more attention to expand the connotation of the internationalization of higher education, we should help the internationalization of higher education to play the guiding role of the backbone, provide wider communicative platform and cooperative space, adapt to and promote the education paradigm reform happening in the world, and improve policies and conditions. We need to understand the new concept, new trend, new mission and new challenges of the internationalization of higher education, and believes that the opening up of Chinese higher education will surely have broader prospects.
