A Discussion on the Problems and Related Policies with Directional Employed Normal Students |

Abstract Currently three phenomena appear in the supply of teachers in China: the quantity problem of teacher supply has been significantly resolved, the gap of teacher supply between urban and rural areas has become increasingly prominent, and the structural difference of teacher supply between different subjects has become increasingly apparent. On such realistic background, the free education and funding policy for normal university students, which was put into trial use in 2007 and is gradually being promoted nowadays, could no longer effectively solve the new problems of teacher supply today. This requires us to strengthen the pertinence and guidance of the financing policy, to guide those students in their future employment discipline by explicitly confirming their employment districts and employing schools, and to orient the future career prospects for those students to be employed in the rural areas, so as to achieve the effects of funding.
